Many of you have been calling and asking for bikes and or parts only to find we are sold out. You may have been looking for something for a while only to find the same. It is our goal here, to help inform and educate about what is happening and what we are doing to address the issue.
First of all, what is causing the largest shortage the bicycle industry has had in history. It’s not as simple as boosted sales from quarantine. There are three parts to this issue. First part, is the natural spike in sales nation wide that happens every spring as the rest of the country thaws out and preps for the busy summer season. This is where many shortages started. Every year there are a couple items that will oddly run out because of this. We just don’t see everything disappear like it has. Second is an unexpected spike in demand from issues surrounding COVID-19. Quarantine, every other activity and form of entertainment closing, combined with an amazing spring got more people on bikes than ever. To put things in perspective, most manufacturers sold more in the month of April than any other single year on record. That’s an incredible number of bikes and parts to fix them. Lastly, there have been trade issues that are still in effect that were compounded by the virus closing boarders and shipping. Countries that export to the US may be operating again but we still haven’t seen any resolution in the trade issues between them.
While the supply chain is not optimal, we still have bikes in stock with gaps in some categories. The best way to ensure you get something that is currently not in stock is to prepay for what you want and wait. Items are arriving every week. Items that are pre sold go to those customers first and what is left goes to the floor. Some categories will be delayed all the way through spring meaning we haven't even had access to some items for almost a year.
There are other alternatives to find what you want or need. For bikes, the used market has exploded with more offerings than we have ever seen in a while. We are offering our shop as a neutral ground for buyers and sellers to meet and have a bike mechanic on hand to look over any potential purchases while providing a safe environment for sellers. If you’re looking at a used bike and you just aren’t sure of what you are looking at you are more than welcome to send us a text to the shop number with a link to the bike you’re interested in. We are more than happy to help you navigate through the used market. Keep in mind, the spike in demand for bicycles has caused the prices to increase significantly. You can expect to pay more for a used bike than this time last year.
For parts it’s a little more tricky. We have been able to repair almost every bike that cares through the door. While parts are hard to source, we have been able to find them. We have a great supply of the most common items in stock and ready to install, keeping your wait time to a minimum. In some cases we need to order a part or two to get a bike going again. This may take a little longer than normal but we are finding what we need and getting the bikes back to the customer within a week or two. There are a few rare exceptions but it's likely you will have your repair within a week. There are always alternative choices and swaping/upgrading parts to cut down time. When you come by the shop with your bike we will go over those options and ensure that you can make an informed choice about how the repair can be managed.
In a few cases there just isn’t an option that will work. In these cases all we can ask is for your patience and courtesy as we make every attempt to get you squared away. As always, reach out to us if you have questions. We are here to help.
We have a great selection of bikes and parts are starting to become available. Some categories are still out and we are expecting to have those towards the end of winter over the next few weeks so we should be fully stocked by then.
We are currently taking pre orders for bike due to arrive. If you know what you want the best way to ensure you get it is to prepay giving you priority and first access to available inventory as it arrives.
